Fishing Derby... Vermont
I'm sitting up here on Salem Lake in Derby, Vermont right now, and I thought it would be appropriate to update the Stew! It's been a while, and I've been hard at work, but we still have plenty of great features coming to Boondock Stew. We didn't promote Catch of the Week as much as we should of, so we will be turning that contest into a monthly thing. Anyways, I thought I'd share this photo of a Walleye I caught up here, around 8:15 at night, on a Jointed Rapala Firetiger. Unfortunately I was not prepared, no pliers, and he was hooked pretty bad. Brought him home, made some nice fillets, and snapped a pic!... Read More >>
YUM Money Minnow
I have never really used swimbaits before I got my hands on the YUM Money Minnow. This bait is a very soft bait, and has incredible action. YUM also released a hook suitable for the YUM Money Minnow, and these hooks are a must for this bait.
The lifelike action on this bait is simply amazing. You really have to see it to believe it. Fish it fast, twitch it, retrieve it slow, there are so many ways to fish this bait, it's actually quite fun.
I caught some nice smallmouths as well as largemouths with this swim bait, and I believe that you will too. I can't stress enough how enticing this lure is.... Read More >>
Salem Lake
By Boondock Dave on August 9th 2010
I've fished Salem Lake for 3 years in a row now, and thought it could make a Boondock Stew Fishing Spot. After all, it's in New England (barely).
In the past years we've caught some bass, yellow perch, white perch, pickerel, and small mouths. We were aware Walleye were in the lake as well, but never caught any.
Salem Lake is a very big lake, however, very shallow around all of the edges. You could be 200 feet off of shore in some spots, and still stand up in the water.
We had cold, choppy weather for most of the week, but managed to get a good Walleye, a ton of Yellow Perch, a White Perch, an above... Read More >>

It's July already?!
Happy 4th everyone! Our Catch of the Week contest officially starts tomorrow, so hurry up and register your account, and get them entries in!
A new review, and a new fishing spot is up, and there will be much more to follow. We are going to be organizing a monthly gathering for all of our fishing buddies. We will find nice ponds and lakes in the area (with a plentiful amount of bass), bring all the canoes, kayaks, and small boats we can, and have a good time. Depending on the turnout we may have small competitions (for little to no prize, BRAGGING RIGHTS), we will keep everyone updated.
Hope everyone get's out on the water today, it's beautiful out!
Tim catches a large mouth on a ribbit frog
As we are experimenting with our camera gear, trying to figure it all out, Tim catches a large mouth. Check out the video below:
This heat is killer, where'd the bass go?
With the warming temperatures, the bass are burying themselves down in the weed beds. The StewCrew has had the best luck catching fish during two key times of the day: early, before the sun comes up, and late afternoon, when the suns going down into the night. I find that Bass are very picky this time of year, and we have to work a little bit harder to trigger that bite. I've lured them in with a variety of soft plastic baits, mainly those with alot of action, such as a Trigger-X Craw, or a Berkley Power Hawg. The Crew has also reported catching fish on top waters with alot of action, Poppers and Propeller Baits to name a few.
For those brave enough (or those who don't work during the day), you can face the scorching temperatures we've been having. I find that's an even tougher time to fish. However if you get into some nice cover, and have the proper tackle, fishing during the heat of the day can be very effective.
